Rum Bum Racing Gears Up for Return to Daytona
Daytona Beach, FL 5 (January 2010)- Rum Bum Racing will kick the 2011 GRAND AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season off with three days of testing at Daytona International Speedway this weekend as the organization continues to make preparations for a championship run in just the teams second year of competition.
After closing out the year with a flurry of champange-earning outings that saw Rum Bum Racing finish on the podium in the final three races of the season with two wins, the team is ready to keep that momentum to open the 2011 season. Drivers Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi have been signed to return to the cockpit of the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3, and the team will continue to benefit from the experience and knowledge that Joe Varde brings to the organization.
With a full year of experience racing together under the collective Rum Bum Racing belts, the team has a clear focus on staging a strong campaign in the 2011 championship standings. While it was just the rookie season for the group, Rum Bum Racing played a key role in catapulting BMW to the GRAND-AM Manufacturer Championship in 2010 and is keen to have a similar effect in 2011.
With Daytona International Speedway having been repaved for the first time in decades, the testing will provide Rum Bum with crucial new data to continue to improve the teams set-up for the opening race of the season January 28.
Varde and company know that they have a good start on the track, having scored a dramatic win at the "World Center of Racing" in the team debut last year, but with the competition intensifying for the 2011 season, there is a lot to keep pushing on to stay at the sharp end of the field.
"We had a great test at Homestead last month, and we just want to be as productive as we can this weekend because there is a lot to learn about this new pavement so every lap is going to be important," said Plumb, who is also expected to have some news about a run in the Rolex 24 this weekend as well. "We had a great run last year of course with the win, but now we've got a target on our back bumper. We aren't the rookie team anymore so we have to keep pushing. This season is going to be very competitive, but we've got all the ingredients we need to perform and we just have to make the most of this opportunity."
Testing will open on Friday, January 7th.
