Fisken scores victory and podium on British GT debut

Gregor Fisken marked his British GT Championship debut with a superb win, followed by a fine podium, alongside Martin Short in the Rollcentre Racing Mosler MT900 at Spa-Francorchamps at the weekend.

Fisken, who has returned to modern racing for the first time since a one-off outing in the American Le Mans Series last season, followed up his podium finish in the Britcar championship at Rockingham last weekend with race 1 victory at the legendary Belgian circuit, while third in race 2 leaves him and Short just nine points adrift in the British GT Championship standings, despite missing the opening round at Oulton Park.

"It has been a dream weekend," said a delighted Fisken after the two races. "I'd hoped for a top five finish, or maybe a podium, on my debut, so to win the first race and back that up with a race 2 podium are fairytale results."

The race 1 win came after an exciting tussle with the Preci Spark Ascari KZ1R of brothers Godfrey and David Jones, which turned into the lead battle when the second Rollcentre Mosler of Stuart Hall and Daniel Brown was handed a penalty.

"We had some luck when our sister car got the penalty, but we were well placed to capitalise," said Gregor. "I handed the car over to Martin in a good position, after battling with the Ascari throughout my stint, and he did a great job to get past and give us the win.

"It was a very hard fight, but very fair and one of the best I've ever had. To come home first was wonderful."

Fisken and Short had been set to finish second in race 2, although a clash with a Belgian GT Championship runner, which shared the grid with its British championship counterparts, resulted in the pair settling for another strong result in third.

"Martin handed me the car in second place and although my lap times were good, I was punted off by a Ferrari 430," explained Gregor. "Thankfully I avoided the gravel trap and managed to keep it going in third. I was under a lot of pressure from the Barwell Motorsport Aston Martin DBRS9 in the closing stages, but got my head down and secured the podium.

"It's been a superb weekend and full credit to Martin who drove really well. I'd also like to thank the team who prepared us a fantastic car and were incredibly professional."

Team owner Short, an experienced British GT racer, was also delighted with the results and the contribution of his debutant team-mate. "Gregor performed over and above what was expected of him," he said. "He did a remarkable job, in very difficult circumstances. To finish first and third is something that both of us can be extremely pleased and proud of."
