Vinales: There's no way I could've beaten Marquez

Maverick Vinales said sixth was the maximum he could have achieved in the Austrian Grand Prix, due to a lack of grip in the latter stages of the Spielberg race.

Starting sixth on the grid, Vinales spent the entire race in the same position, running with the leading group of the two Ducatis, two Yamahas and Marc Marquez initially.

While the first four soon separated themselves from Marquez and Vinales, the Suzuki rider reckoned it was impossible to pass the championship leader despite the duo running close together for the rest of the race.

"Today this was the limit of the bike, I couldn't do any more," said the future Yamaha rider. "I was feeling that I could push on the limit, but it was impossible because of the grip.

"When exiting the corners I was sliding all the time and there Marc [Marquez] was going away all the time. It was so difficult to accelerate, it was making a lot of wheelspin.

"We need to work hard with the electronics for the end of the races, because the first lap was really good when I had grip, I was feeling really fast and competitive.

"But then I was feeling quite bad, the bike was accelerating nearly nothing."

In addition, Vinales also felt his bike was lacking top speed as he failed to even catch Marquez's Honda in the slipstream.

"Today I was feeling the bike was quite slow, in the draft I could not even catch Marc," added Vinales.

"I had the same feeling I also had in Montmelo [Barcelona], that the bike in practice is going quite fast, then in the race slower a little bit."
