As previously reported by Motorsport.com, Erik Jones will take the wheel of the No. 18 JGR Toyota for an injured Kyle Busch as David Ragan leaves the role to pilot the No. 55 MWR Toyota for the remainder of the year.
Jones, made an unexpected Sprint Cup at Bristol after Denny Hamlin suffered neck spasms during the race. He placed 26th with no prior experience in a Gen-6, but went uncredited for the result (driver who starts the race gets credit for finish and all points in NASCAR).
The 18-year-old currently competes full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports and a partial schedule for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, winning his first NXS race earlier this year at Texas.
Next weekend at Kansas, he will be making his official and proper debut, revealed by the team earlier today.
“I’m pretty excited and grateful for the opportunity to drive the No. 18 M&M’S Toyota Camry in the Sprint Cup Series and make my debut for Joe Gibbs Racing," said Jones. "This is a really good opportunity for me. We are going to try to manage our expectations and if we can go out and get a top-15 run and gain some experience, that would be a great day for us. I’m also excited about representing M&M’S, a great longtime partner at JGR and such a well-known brand. I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the M&M’S Toyota at Kansas.”
