Logano helps young cancer sufferer realize her bucket list
NASCAR star Joey Logano believes in second chances. But for cancer sufferer Ashleigh Hunt, the Team Penske racer wanted to ensure she would enjoy a first.

In 2013, Hunt was diagnosed with stage IV osteosarcoma. Although osteosarcomas are rare, they are the most common type of cancer that develops in bones and usually affects children and young adults. Hunt was 19 at the time of her diagnosis.
Following a courageous battle that included chemotherapy and multiple surgeries, Hunt was informed the cancer was no longer active. Last September, however, the cancer returned.
Through one of his staffers, Logano discovered Ashleigh’s Bucket List — adventures Hunt is hoping experience as she faces her current fight.
“My bookkeeper, Katharine [Dukes], it’s her best friend’s daughter,” Logano told motorsport.com at Pocono Raceway. “She told me the situation and showed me the wish list on her Facebook page with some of the things she wanted to do.
“One of them was a New York City trip with a Broadway show and maybe a Yankee’s game.
“I was like, ‘We can do that. Let’s do it VIP style. Let’s do something big.’
“It’s just such a horrible situation. I can’t imagine being in that situation. It has to be tough to be in that situation not knowing what might be around the corner and having doctors tell you you’re going to die.”
Tumor continues to grow
According to the Hunt family’s Facebook page: “Ashleigh's CT scan came back and the tumor (on her left lung) is continuing to grow and there is another small tumor that just showed up on the right lung. The doctor said to focus on Ashleigh's Bucket List.”
On Wednesday, Hunt is scheduled to fly from Ohio to New York City via private jet for the trip of a lifetime.
“It’s cool she’s taking the opportunity to go and live life and not be down about it,” Logano said. "Obviously, it’s probably hard not to get down about it — and I’m sure she is — but it’s the least we can do is try to help out a little bit and give her a really cool experience.”
Logano realizes how fortunate he is to drive cars for a living. But if he can bring joy to others, “that’s what it’s really all about."
