NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace comes out of retirement, to race in the X Games

Rusty Wallace is the 1989 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, a 2013 NASCAR HOF Inductee, and a decade into his retirement as a driver in the series. Since then, he has owned his own XFINITY team with son Steven behind the wheel and served as an ESPN commentator.

You could tell the 58-year-old Wallace still had a hunger to race when he gladly took part in testing the No. 2 Team Penske Generation-Six Cup car last year at Daytona. Well, he's now revealed to AP that he plans to make a comeback in more than just a test and no, it has absolutely nothing to do with NASCAR.

Wallace will get behind the wheel of one of Robby Gordon's high-flying Stadium Super Trucks in the X Games this June. Although he's doing the event for the fun of it, he could potentially be the first ever NASCAR champion to earn a medal in the extreme sports event, which includes both rallycross and SST.

This year's summer X Games take place at COTA in Austin, Texas. SST were added to the games for the first time last year, which saw Mexico's Apdaly Lopez emerge victorious.
