Celebrating The Fourth With A Third

Watkins Glen, NY (July 4, 2010) - Randy continued to have success at one of his favorite tracks by capturing the pole and finishing on the podium at the World Challenge Grand Prix of Watkins Glen. On Friday, Randy and the #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 won the pole by over a second. At the beginning of the race, Randy shot off the standing start and had a huge lead as he came around to finish his first lap. Ron Fellows' Corvette, which had bogged at the start, was quickly closing the gap and caught Randy by lap five. Randy, who had developed brake problems, drove into turn one with Fellows on his bumper and went wide, allowing Fellows to get by. The Viper of Kuno Wittmer passed a few laps later in traffic. Fellows' car was in a class all its own and couldn't be caught. Randy stayed close to the Viper, finishing in third place and holding the lead in the Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships. Unfortunately, teammate Andy Pilgrim did not fare so well, having mechanical problems in both qualifying and the race.

"What a great team effort. Qualifying was truly amazing! We had them by over a second. I'm really pleased to have had the Volvo run so well. Because of the mandated weight of the car, it is hard to maintain that pace in the race. The brakes that were so fabulous in qualifying just got too darn hot in the race. With the brake issue, the Volvo was pretty tricky to drive, although the lap times were still good. I was almost as fast as Kuno, and with better brakes, I could have given him a run. Ron Fellows is a top driver and a great guy and, if his car ran the whole series, the Corvette performance would no doubt be adjusted much the way the Volvos were after our one-two at New Jersey last year. The best news is that we extended our points lead."

"I am so sorry about Andy's continued issues which are not driver initiated. Its so unfortunate. I would like to thank the K-PAX crew for their hard work and continued positive attitudes. I also want to thank Jill Swanson for the FAST Nomex Cool Suit Shirt that kept me comfortable on a hot July afternoon, and also to my personal sponsors WeatherTech, ChaseCam, saferacer.com, Team Janica Racing and Prairie Hills Motorsport Club for their continued support."
