Road America: Revolution Motorsports Friday summary

Hayer & Sak combine with team cars both in top 10.

Revolution Motorsports solid qualifying at Road America.

Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - August 16, 2002 - Revolution Motorsports once again asserts their presence in the Trans Am Series for the BF Goodrich Tires Cup putting two cars in the top 10 in qualifying for the Johnson Controls 100 at Road America.

Stu Hayner [#02 Trenton Forging Corvette] took to the track in the afternoon qualifying session and immediately put in a time of 2:11.028. The time stood good enough to qualifying Hayner sixth for Saturday's Johnson Controls 100.

"We've got an excellent race car," said Hayner. "I really didn't push it. We're sitting 3/10ths off the pole... on a four mile track, that's nothing. We're going to be right in it all afternoon."

Hayner's point is justified by looking at his second fastest lap. His time nearly mirrored his fast lap... the most consistent of any driver. Coming from an endurance background, look for Hayner to spend the day being in a position to win.

Don Sak [#10 Revolution Motorsports / missingkids.com Corvette] went out with the second group. Taking no prisoners, Sak continued were he left off at Trois Rivieres and set the fast time for his group.

"I'm real happy with the car," Said Don. "We thought we might have some issues with the tire compounds BF Goodrich mandated... but they were good. I usually like a bit softer tire, but these worked fine. I had no problem getting hooked up and the car felt good. I expect I'll have more speed in tomorrows race as the tires work in. This should be a good weekend for us. We really enjoy being here."

Revolution Motorsports and the Trans-Am Series for the BF Goodrich Tires Cup are at the Road America sports car course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The event, the 2002 Trans-Am Johnson Controls100, runs in conjunction with CART as part of the Motorola 220. The Trans-Am race will air on SPEED Channel at noon EST, Sunday August 18.
