FOCUSES, YOUNG GUNS SATURDAY AT VENTURA; "YOUNG GUNS" ADD HICKORY DATE OCTOBER 23; THOMPSON, WALMER TAKE ORANGE SHOW MAIN EVENTS

The USAC Western Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns Series invade Ventura (Calif.) Raceway Saturday to augment the USAC Western Midget racing program at the southern California dirt oval.

Cody Gerhardt (Focus) and Brandon White (Young Guns) lead the respective series standings entering the Ventura race after Gerhardt finished second and White fourth in races at San Bernardino, Calif. last Saturday.

The USAC Focus Young Guns have also announced their participation in the October 23 events at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway, where the Midwest and Eastern/Carolina Ford Focuses will conclude their 2010 championship seasons.

Cody Thompson of Fremont, Calif. and Keegan Walmer of Portland, Ore. captured USAC feature events Saturday night at San Bernardino's Orange Show Speedway. Thompson won the 40-lap Western Ford Focus race, leading the final 32 laps after passing early leader Eli Schrock. Cody Gerhardt took second ahead of Keegan Walmer, fast qualifier Michael Lewis and Garrett Peterson.

Walmer won the 20-lap Focus Young Guns feature, taking the lead from Austin Farley on the final lap! Farley was second ahead of Jessica Clark, Brandon White and Jarid Blondel. Clark led lap one, Farley led the next 18 and then Walmer took the checkered first.
