PERKINS OUT OF LUCK AT HIDDEN VALLEY
Dodo Racing Team pilot Jack Perkins has endured a luckless day at the SKYCITY Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, NT today.
Perkins was in the top 20 in the first segment of qualifying for the entire session, only to be bumped out of the top 20 that advance to the next session after the chequered flag by Greg Murphy.
Starting today's race from 21st position aboard the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore, Perkins suffered from a slow start off the line, losing several positions on the run to Turn 1.
While rounding the first corner Perkins and Shane Van Gisbergen made contact, damaging a steering arm on Perkins's Dodo Commodore and ending his race barely after it had begun.
Perkins is now focusing on tomorrow's race, where he will not only be able to use his set of Dunlop's softer 'option' tyre, he will also have a brand new set of the harder 'control' tyre at his disposal.
Jamie Whincup won today's event ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:
"Unfortunately I had a terrible start and lost a fair few spots on the run to the first corner," said Perkins.
"We normally start using the hand brake and it seems to have failed and that's just cost us a little bit off the line.
"I just rubbed doors with the #9 car and it was wheel to wheel contact, so it damaged our steering straight away. Had it have been a foot back or a foot further forward, it wouldn't have damaged the suspension at all.
"It just ended a bit of a disappointing day because we had a car that was good enough for a Top 15. In qualifying we got piped by Greg Murphy after the chequered flag.
"These things happen and we'll bounce back tomorrow with the best tyres in the field. The soft tyres look good for 20 to 25 laps judging from today's race and our hard tyres are good, we have brand new ones for qualifying.
"We will have a bit of a think aboout what we want to do tonight and if it works for us tomorrow if could be a very good day for the Dodo Commodore."
