IRWIN RACING RETURNS TO FORM IN PERTH

IRWIN Racing has returned to the top ten, finishing race eight of the V8 Supercar championship in sixth place.

Qualifying on the second row of the grid, Davison made another strong start passing Craig Lowndes to take third by the first turn, but the race was stopped immediately due to a massive accident near the rear of the grid between Karl Reindler and Steve Owen.

Reindler stalled his Commodore on the grid and was collected by Steve Owen who failed to see the stricken car. Both cars were engulfed in a ball of flame with Reindler taken to the on-track medical facility suffering from minor burns.

On the re-start, Davison passed the two TeamVodafone cars to trail race leader and eventual winner Jason Bright. Davison lost a couple of places but maintained his competitiveness throughout the race to finish sixth.

The excessive tyre wear problems that saw the IRWIN racer finish 21st on Saturday were not as evident today.

Race nine of the series starts at 2.05pm local (4.05pm AEST).

What IRWIN Racing’s Alex Davison had to say:

“It was a good solid result, the IRWIN Ford was really, really good on fresh tyres and for the next race we are going to try and get it to look after the tyres a bit better so we can get up to the top few. After the frustration of yesterday’s race the team has done an outstanding job to turn things around.”

What IRWIN Engineer Daniel Kroehn had to say:

“We went home, did our homework and went over everything with a fine tooth comb to work out where we could have done things better yesterday. This translated into a really strong qualifying result and a good solid finish to race eight of the championship. We have a little more work to do to go a bit quicker for race nine but we are on the right track again.”
