Surprisingly Reynolds set his best time in the first half of the session, scorching to a 1m06.730s with 38 minutes left to run. It was the first ever V8 Supercars lap under 1m07s at the Darwin circuit.

It took until the closing minutes of the session for anyone to join Reynolds in the 1m06s, with Prodrive team-mate Mark Winterbottom improving to a 1m06.8141s late on, before Fabian Coulthard sprung into third at the flag with a 1m06.907s.

Chaz Mostert made it three Prodrive cars in the top four with the fourth fastest time, while James Moffat was the best of the Nissans in fifth.

James Courtney and Jamie Whincup were next, while Ash Walsh was the best-placed Erebus car in eighth, edging out Craig Lowndes by 0.003s.

Scott McLaughlin was again the best of the Volvos, going 10th fastest after battling power steering problems throughout the session.

There was only one red flag during the hour-long session, due to a small grass fire that flared up 30 minutes in.

Marcos Ambrose completed five more laps in the DJR Team Penske car, lowering his best for the weekend down to a 1m08.066s.
