Berger not satisfied yet

BMW Williams may be currently at the top of the Constructors' standings but BMW Motorsport director Gerhard Berger won't let the excitement get carried away. With 22 points from two races, Williams are looking to be the main challenger to Ferrari as many considered they would be. McLaren have had a poor start to the season with only four points in hand from Kimi Raikkonen's third in the Australian Grand Prix.

Defending World Champion Michael Schumacher has admitted he's not surprised by the Williams challenge but there's still fifteen races to go before the end of the season. Berger is well aware of how quickly things can change and would rather wait to see if the team reach their target of second behind Ferrari in the championship before celebrating.

"Despite the success at Malaysia GP, euphoria shall not get out of hand for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team," he said. "Another team is still the favourite for the constructors' title. We will only be satisfied at the end of the season, once we have reached our target: second behind Ferrari. Anything else, as we now stand, is unrealistic."

Ferrari certainly looked strong in Australia, Schumacher romping home to an easy win despite using last year's car. Although team mate Rubens Barrichello suffered a blown engine in the race, it seems that the Scuderia are likely to be at the forefront in many races to come. However, Williams' BMW P82 engine has been reliable so far, after so many failures last season, and Berger says rivals have noticed.

"For us, it was clear that we were not going to be a constant threat for Ferrari in this year," he commented. "But we are on a good way mechanically, with a good gearbox and a good chassis. And even our competitors are saying that we have a good engine."

Both Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher set lap records during the Malaysian GP last weekend and the BMW boss thinks the next race in Brazil will be another good one for Williams: "I believe we should be in a very good position in Brazil," Berger said. "I am very confident of it.

Montoya was leading last season's race at Interlagos until Jos Verstappen hit him from behind and removed him from the race.

"Last year we were the quickest car there (in Brazil) and we only lost the race because of stupid accidents," Berger added. "We were strong there last year just as we were strong in Malaysia last year and we returned to Sepang to win the race. If you remember, even last year things looked good in Malaysia. We only lost it when itstarted to rain. Next weekend I am sure we are going to be very good and very competitive."
