Points For Carroll In Sprint Race

A very entertaining sprint race this morning saw Adam Carroll pick up some points on his first GP2 event of the season in P5 and Fairuz take a solid 12th place finish. A wet track with a drying line on the Nurburgring circuit meant that it was only a matter of time before the GP2 drivers would be forced to pit for slicks. The Super Nova team got the strategy right and, along with some great driving, this elevated Adam into the points towards the end of a race full of contact and mistakes from other drivers. Fairuz was looking even stronger than his result suggests but spun five laps from the end when he was heading towards a top eight finish.

“I made a pretty good start and managed to stay out of trouble during the opening laps, before pitting for slicks. I stopped a bit long in the box and this cost us some time, but after the stop our pace was very good and I was focused on finishing in the top eight. Then around five laps from the end I had contact from Valsecchi and a spin, damaging my front wing and it lost us a lot of time. Again I am feeling positive going into the next race, where I hope to be able to get a clean lap in qualifying, which will allow us to show our true potential in the races.”

“A good race today in tricky conditions to go from 15th to 5th, the guys also did a great job on the pitwall. I really enjoyed the race but the first lap after changing to slicks was extremely difficult and it was just a matter of keeping the car on track. After that when the grip came we had good pace and I am pleased with the final result. I’ve learned a lot this weekend, especially with the tyres, so I am really looking forward to the next race.”

David Sears – Team Principal

"Our drivers endured a difficult wet and dry race today at Nurburgring. Although neither of them made good starts they stayed out of trouble and Adam Carroll managed to climb through to 5th place at the flag - gaining his first two points in GP2 since he last raced with us. Fairuz Fauzy should have finished inside the top ten but Valsecchi managed to attack him as he was the last one to change for dry tyres and damaged Fairuz's front wing in the process."
