Baltimore off the 2014 calendar

The IndyCar Series was ready to return to the street circuit in Baltimore but a conflict for the city in Maryland on Labor Day, 2014, has halted the race and with no other date available for a return to Baltimore, INDYCAR was forced to cancel the event.

College Football takes precedence over motor sports.

While INDYCAR states that the event was successful and popular, many of the IndyCars went flying in the air on the now famous chicane on the street circuit, they tried to save the event.

Working with the Andretti Sports Marketing group and the city of Baltimore, a date for 2014 is not feasible. "After a successful visit to Baltimore, which included record attendance, we are disappointed that our schedules will not align to host an event in 2014," said Mark Miles, chief executive officer, Hulman & Co., the parent company of INDYCAR.

The area is also known as Charm City, and both Race On and Andretti Sports Marketing gave it their best. It has been our pleasure to work with Race On, the City of Baltimore, the INDYCAR Series and the American Le Mans Series. It was a great experience working with the fans in Baltimore and the community and hopefully one day we will be back," said Michael Andretti, CEO of Andretti Sports Marketing.

Miles added: "This was simply a matter of trying to find the best date that worked for all parties, since Labor Day weekend was not an option in 2014. We are thankful to the city of Baltimore, Race On and Andretti Sports Marketing for their support and enthusiasm for the event over the years." He also said that next year's calendar will be announced at a later date.
