Interested spectators in the garage area today included Memo Gidley, Richie Hearn, Jaques Lazier and Jimmy Kite. Jimmy is looking forward to things coming together for a ride at Indy. Jaques announced that he has joined with Team Xtreme to drive a second car, the #77 , for Indy this year sponsored by Jonathon Byrd Cafeterias. Jaques, brother of series and Indy 500 champion Buddy Lazier was the highest placed rookie in 2000 at Indy, finishing 13th.

JJ Yeley qualified second for Saturday's Worldcom USAC National/Western Midget Car Series and will also drive at the Manzanita Speedway Friday and Saturday night in his usual # 76 non-winged sprint car. He also will drive in the USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series race on Sunday.

Tony Ave is also driving in two series this weekend, the Midgets and Sprints. Tony is a veteran of Trans Am and Formula Atlantics but "found that rides are drying up" so he has switched to pavement sprint cars. He is driving the #2 Gregg Steele/Century 21/Pink Ford/Beast in the midgets and the #3 3D Motorsports/3D Motorsports/Chevy/Jazz in the Silver Crown series. Despite the switch, Tony has found a full time ride in Formula Atlantics for 2001 with P1 Motorsports.

Sam Hornish, Jr. has taken over for Scott Goodyear in the Pennzoil Panther racing #4 for 2001 and had today's fastest lap. He has been near the top of the charts in all the practice and test sessions for the 2001 IRNLS.

IRNLS Ironman Davey Hamilton is running all 4 series this weekend. He is the driver of the brand new Sam Schmidt Motorsports #99 Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone. Davey has started all 43 IRL races prior to this weekends event.

Today's action saw qualifying for tomorrow's Supermodified and Midget races. Davey Hamilton put his #1 Supermodified on the pole. Troy Regier was second and Dave McKnight, Jr was third. The Worldcom National/Western Midgets pole was taken by Dane Carter in his #77. Kasey Kahne was second and J.J. Yeley qualified third.

The Pennzoil Copper World Indy 200 will be televised live on ABC at 4 PM (EST) Sunday March 18. "Indy Racing 2Day" will be televised live at 11:30 AM on the 18th on ESPN2. ESPN2 will also televise the MBNA Pole at 4:30 PM Saturday March 17. The IRNLS race broadcast will be available live at www.indyracing.com.
