LE MANS 24 HOURS: PART TWO - CRS Racing Driver’s Preview

The Le Mans 24 Hours is the world’s greatest sportscar endurance race. Fast cars, daring drivers, an iconic race track and a rich history all feature in the dreams of many young would-be racing drivers.

This is the race that inspired the famous 1971 Steve McQueen film ‘Le Mans’ and there aren’t many drivers who will forget the words of the lead character:

“A lot of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well. When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.”

Three men who dreamt about racing at Le Mans are Pierre Ehret, Shaun Lynn and Roger Wills, who together make up CRS’ Le Mans line-up.

Pierre Ehret has already competed five times at Le Mans. He has achieved some great results there over the years and he knows what he has to look forward to next week.

“This will be my sixth time at Le Mans,” said Pierre. “It will be special this year as we are entered as a pure amateur driving squad so it will be interesting to see how we fare against the others. My family are coming to the race this year for the first time so that will be great. I love the track; the Porsche Curves and Dunlop are special and I really enjoy those. The atmosphere at Le Mans makes you feel great as all of the drivers are celebrated as if they are kings!”

Pierre’s team-mates are both Le Mans rookies, but no strangers to competitive racing. For New-Zealander Roger Wills and Briton Shaun Lynn, competing in the Le Mans 24 Hours is a boyhood dream come true.

“There are so many things in life that slip out of reach when you get to our age,” explained Roger. “You can’t be a pro golfer or a pro footballer but you can go and compete as an amateur at the top level of sportscar racing at Le Mans. It has long been my dream to race at Le Mans and race against the big boys. I enjoy the circuit and I don’t find it too technical. There are a couple of places that focus your concentration though, like the Porsche Curves for instance. It doesn’t frighten me though and I’m really looking forward to it.”

“Racing against the best drivers and the best cars in such an amazing arena gives you the chance to see how good you really are,” added Shaun. “There is so much history at Le Mans and the competition is so tight you can’t help but want to do it. The track is awesome due to the sheer size of it and the speeds you get up to. The Porsche Curves definitely make you tingle; what an amazing combination that is. It really came alive for us towards the end of the Test Day. It takes a bit of time to get into the groove at Le Mans but when you do…!”
