On Thursday, Sprint announced the current top-five vote-getters by alphabetical order: Ryan Blaney, Matt DiBenedetto, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Danica Patrick. Patrick is a two-time winner of the fan vote (2015 and 2013).
Fans can vote daily through 5 p.m. ET next Friday on the NASCAR Mobile App, or HERE, with votes shared on Facebook and Twitter counting double.
NASCAR recently announced changes to the all-star race format, which was formulated with help from the Drivers Council, and specifically former Cup champion Brad Keselowski.
The new format includes two 50-lap segments with mandatory green-flag pit stops in an attempt to shuffle the field. The event will culminate with a 13-lap final dash for the $1 million top prize.
Prior to the start of the final segment, a random draw will decide whether the top nine, 10 or 11 cars will enter pit road for a mandatory four-tire pit stop. The rest will stay out on older tires and lead the field to green for the final segment. Cars with four new tires will line up behind those with older tires.
Barring a new winner in Sunday’s AAA 400 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, the 20-car all-star field will consist of Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Keselowski, Joey Logano, Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart, Martin Truex Jr., Winner of Segment 1 of Sprint Showdown, Winner of Segment 2, Winner of Segment 3, Sprint Fan Vote winner, Sprint Fan Vote winner second place.
If a non-qualified driver wins Sunday’s race, only the top vote getter not already in the race will advance to the all-star main event.
