VETERAN JIMMY CASTLEBERRY TAKES SCOTTY'S NIGHT LATE MODEL VICTORY

AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY, Auburndale, FL (5-23-98) - Veteran driver Jimmy Castleberry won the Scotty's Night Late Model Feature this evening. Other winners were Marlon Lynn (Modified Mini Stock), Robert Hight (Street Stock), Randy King (Pure Stock 4 Cylinder), and Brian Donahue (Pure Stock V-8).

Jimmy Castleberry started on the pole tonight with his Narramore's Machine Shop Chevrolet, and led the entire 25 laps for the Feature win. Eddie King pleased his sponsor by taking a close second with his Scotty's Ford, while Richard Elkins Jr. finished third in his Midas Jewelers / Florida Welding entry. Former Auburndale Track Champion Dave Dunkin drove to fourth place in his "Blue Goose" Chevrolet, and the Pro Auto Machine Chevrolet of Ollie Harbin took fifth. Late Model heat race wins went to Castleberry and King.

Marlon Lynn charged to the Modified Mini Stock victory with his Ford, from his outside row two starting spot. Bob Storer was right on Lynn's rear bumper to finish second in his Autoland Dodge at the checkers, while last weeks winner Shaun Williams took third in his Apex Ford. Kevin Boykin was fourth place in the 25 lap Feature, followed by Jason Rendell in fifth. Heat race wins were taken by Lynn and Randy Storer.

Hard charging Robert Hight came from his outside row eight starting position to victory lane in Street Stock competition this evening. Hight held off the late race challenge of Ron Lofquist to win a battle of Monte Carlo's. The Gator Construction Chevrolet of Lofquist had ripped though the field from the outside row eleven starting spot to be on the winners rear bumper at the finish line. Pole sitter Paul Gibbs was third place, with James Wright III in fourth, and Westley Bass in fifth. Hight and Gibbs won Street Stock heats.

Randy King raced his way to the win in Pure Stock 4 Cylinder from his inside row ten starting position. King led a Dodge parade as Billy Standridge was second in the B-C Corral Dodge, and Mark Soule finished a close third with his Weymer Builders / DJ Auto Detailing Dodge. Billy May came home fourth, with Hugh Williams in fifth. Heat race wins were taken by May and Williams.

V-8 Pure Stock action saw Brian Donahue in victory lane at the end of the 15 lap Feature event, after starting on the inside of row four. Willie Lacey was second, and Bob Gorsuch took third. Donnie Harp came from the inside of row six to place fourth, and David Davis was fifth in V-8 Pure Stock. Gorsuch and Davis won heat races.

The next race at Auburndale Speedway is Saturday night June 6th, with Late Models, Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stock 4 Cylinders, Pure Stock V-8's, and Dwarf Cars in action.
