Red Bull already is a champion as one of the major sponsors on the eight-time FIA World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb; as well as a sponsor for the Citroen works team. Today, it looks like the energy drink company will win the bid as the new promoter for the world’s top rally series.

The World Rally Championship continued to hold events despite not having a promoter this year. It has not been easy but they rallied on. The search may now be over and a bright new 2013 season is on the horizon.

When they do something, they do it properly.

The series just held one of their premier events, Rally Finland, and with Rallye Deutschland in a few weeks’ time, one would expect the official announcement to take place soon.

North One Sport was the former promoter but at the start of 2012, the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) terminated the agreement for “fundamental breach of contract.” Basically they were not meeting their contractual obligation.

Red Bull, along with Eurosport and a bid from South Africa which was not disclosed were the competitors. Many expected Eurosport to win the bid so this morning’s news comes somewhat as a surprise.

The Austrian company known world-wide for its energy drinks, along with the many sporting events, concerts, and other world-wide special events is now appears to have scored the victory to become the promoter of a major racing series.

Red Bull is already heavily involved in motor sports including sponsoring a Formula One championship team. From motocross to the premier series of single-seater racing, Red Bull is more than an energy drink brand; they are a top-notch operation, who has already taken on the organization and promotion of major events.

The WRC manufacturers, teams and drivers were informed in Finland that Red Bull was the leading candidate.

Citroen Team Principal Yves Matton, whose Citroen cars are sponsored by Red Bull said, "When they do something, they do it properly and they don't just want to make a good name with the promotion. If they choose to invest in the World Rally Championship then it's because they want to make a proper job, otherwise they would not even attempt to do it."
